Simply Voices FAQs

How do I join?

Drop us an email at hello@simplysinging.org.uk - We’ll book you in for your free taster!

Can I try a session first?

Yes — we offer a free taster session so you can see if it’s right for you before committing.

Can I cancel my membership?

Yes — you can cancel your membership at any time, there is no contract.

Do I need to be able to sing?

Not at all! Simply Voices is for everyone — whether you’ve sung in choirs before or only ever sung along to the radio. There are no auditions, and you don’t need to read music.

What if I’m nervous?

That’s completely normal, and many of our members felt the same before they joined. We create a relaxed, supportive environment where you can join in as much or as little as you like.

What kind of songs do you sing?

We sing a wide range of songs — from pop classics to feel-good favourites. The focus is on songs that are uplifting and enjoyable to sing together.

Do I have to perform?

No — performing is always optional. We do offer opportunities to perform for those who’d like to, but there’s absolutely no pressure.

Do I need to read music?

No. All songs are taught by ear, with support to help you learn in a way that feels comfortable.

What happens in a typical session?

Sessions include a gentle warm-up, learning songs together, and plenty of singing! We also build in small moments that support breathing, posture, and overall wellbeing — all woven naturally into the session.

Is it suitable for older adults?

Yes — many of our members are older adults, and sessions are designed to be accessible and enjoyable for a wide range of abilities and energy levels.

Are the sessions physically demanding?

Not at all. Everything is gentle and optional. You can sit or stand, take breaks whenever you need, and go at your own pace.

Can singing really help my wellbeing?

Yes! Singing in a group is linked to improved mood, reduced stress, better breathing, and a greater sense of connection with others. Many of our members say it’s the highlight of their week.

Is there a social side?

Definitely. Many members enjoy chatting before or after sessions, and there are occasional social events and informal meet-ups.

What should I bring?

Just yourself! You might like to bring a drink of water, but everything else is provided.

What if I have a health condition or mobility needs?

You are very welcome. We aim to make sessions as inclusive as possible. Feel free to get in touch in advance if you’d like to discuss anything specific.

What makes Simply Voices different?

Simply Voices is about more than singing — it’s about connection, confidence, and feeling good. Our sessions are designed to be uplifting, inclusive, and supportive of your overall wellbeing, helping you live well for longer.
